Bio Bio

General: The Bio Bio Valley is located approximately 500km South of Santiago. Its cold climate allows for slow maturation. The valley produces wines with good balance and natural acidity.

Similar to the Itata valley, the rustic grapes Pais have been cultivated here for hundreds of years.

Many vineyards are now working on producing high quality wines in this region. Recently there have been excellent results for Riesling and Pinot Noir.

Soils: The soil is naturally sandy, with stony river and organic deposits which create a fertile and productive environment for the vines.

Climate: Sub humid Mediterranean with approximately 1200 mm of rainfall per year. The days are warm with a cool mist that creeps down from the Andes at night, lowering the temperature. The area also features higher rainfall and strong winds.

Varietals (hectares):

  • Pinot Noir (255)
  • Chardonnay (188)
  • Sauvignon Blanc (174)
  • País (115)
  • Riesling (49)
