Choapa

General: Located 300 Km. north of Santiago. Its main activity is mining and production of grapes for Pisco. It is located at the narrowest point of Chile, where there are no differences between the Andes Mountains and the Coast Mountains.

In this small valley there aren’t any wineries yet, but already planted vineyards are producing limited quantities of high quality Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon with high acidity, mineral notes and freshness.

Climate: Is a dry valley, with just 94 mm of rain per year and high temperatures during the summer.

The climate is very interesting in this valley, receiving the influence of Pacific Ocean and at the same time is located in the area near the foot of the Andes Mountains. Both opposite conditions here combine to produce wines with high acidity and low ph levels.

Soils: Rocky piedmont soils. The area where the vineyards are planted are coluvial soil- clay and rock formed from accumulated by gravity at the base of a slope.

Varietals (hectares):

  • Syrah (24)
  • Cabernet Sauvignon (12)
