Cabernet Franc

Description: Great complement in a blend adding freshness and juiciness, lighter than its sister Cabernet Sauvignon, now more often being used successfully as a single varietal. 

Origin: South West France- used for blending with Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot in Bordeaux,  vinificiation as single variety in the Loire Valley


Hectares: 1,226, just 1% of total production volume.

Requirements: Prefers cool climates. Clay or sandy soils.


Tasting notes: 

Colour: Deep dark ruby colour.

Aromas: intensely aromatic of dark fruits like cherry, backberry, plums, sweet spices, some sweet floral and herb tones and a peppery notes.

Palate: Clean and fruity, good body and balance, Chilean Cabernet Franc has less green notes than other wine regions in the world.  Elegant spiciness.

Pairing: Cabernet Franc pairs well with herbaceous or spicy meals which complement its character.
