Merlot

Description: Classic grape and One of the most popular varieties world-wide given its round, easy drinking, fruity character. Complex, elegant aromas, relatively little acid and good capacity for ageing. 

Origin: Bordeaux

Hecatres: 10 640 ha

Requirements: Versatile, character differs depending where it is planted. Clay, calcareous soils.

Valleys: Can be found in nearly all the Chilean valleys, Apalta and Colchagua have produced some wonderful Premium Merlot.

Tasting notes: 

Colour: Intense ruby red

Aromas: Herbaceous and fruity

Palate: Berries, plum and chocolately, medium body with soft tannins and acidity.

Pairing: As easy as it is to drink can be paired easily with many different foods, try with: 

  • Pork, veal, duck, beef
  • Big Italian pastas and sauces
  • Meaty fish (salmon, tuna)
  • Braised meat & poulty and juicy casseroles.
